It all started with our MBA stint at PLM. A good friend, Russel and her husband, Genesis would try to set me up with Genesis' ROTC buddy and friend, Sherwin Barrio but it would never push through because our schedules would not meet. But the right time came and some friends from our MBA class decided to go to a bar to relax and unwind. Genesis brought along Sherwin and we all went to Cowboy Grill Malate. I remembered Sherwin wearing red t-shirt but his presence didn't hit me because I was still nursing a broken heart after ending a 3-year relationship with my ex-boyfriend. The first time I saw him I wasn't physically attracted to him but I enjoyed his company during that night. We exchanged stories like movies, his desire to become a police officer, my brother's police stories and many things. It was a great night.
Eventually, sherwin and I became text and phone buddies. We would spend long nights over the phone talking about anything and in the process we learned each other's sentiments, dreams, problems, likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses over the phone. He would visit me at PLM just to talk. It was the start of a great friendship.
That great friendship would eventually turn into a romance. Our first date was at WOW Philippines in Intramuros, Manila. I told him we’ll just meet at PLM since my MBA class would start at 7:30pm. Sherwin arrived at around 4pm, I was one hour late (hehehehe!). We went to WOW Philippines and stayed at the Clam Shell and visited some stalls there, just walking and chatting. After that, he brought me to PLM so I can attend my MBA class and waited for me to bring me home as well. I can still remember the first movie we watched together and that was LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN at Robinson’s Place in Manila. We’re both movie buffs and at the same time we love eating out. These are our common grounds.
Together with Russel and Genesis, we went to Tagaytay (23rd August 2003) for a weekend get-together and enjoyed each other’s company. Sherwin and me became an official couple on 24th August 2003. The funny thing was that it happened around two o’clock in the morning as we were talking until the wee hours of the night. Up to now I can still remember how it all happened and we often tease each other as to how we became US.
